JORDAN PROJECTS FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Tala Bay is the first project undertaken by Jordan Projects for Tourism Development (JPTD), a public shareholding company that was established in 2001 as a public shareholding company of Jordanians and Arab investors. The founder’s vision was to establish in Jordan a state of the art, and first of its kind integrated residential and tourism resort that will cater to the needs of visitors from all over the world, and to provide for Jordanian and foreign families a unique living style never achieved before in Jordan. Six years into the project, Tala bay remains the only on the ground and operational compound of its sort. The major investors in JPTD are: Abujaber Investments, Orascom Projects for Touristic Development, Zara Investments, the Social Security Corporation, and Al Haqq Establishment.

In addition to Tala Bay, JPTD bought the Royal Diving Centre RDC in 2001, just 2km south of Tala Bay. The RDC is the leading diving facility in Aqaba and provides convenient accommodations for its visitors in the 69 room hotel.

TALA BAY MASTER PLAN

The American “Ellerne Becket” master planning firm completed the master plan of the resort in 2000.

Different parts of Tala Bay project are developed with a distinguished architectural style, which blends the local and regional architecture into a modern atmosphere.

The major zones of the Master Plan are the Marina, the Marina Town that hosts the residential units, the hotel areas, the staff housing, the utility area and the golf course project. Tala Bay consists of many attractions, providing its residents and visitors with a wide selection of activities for the entire family.

Along with the residential units, the master plan for Tala Bay provides for five and four stars hotels with a capacity of 1400 rooms. Three of the four hotels will begin their operations in Tala Bay during the first quarter of 2008: The Marina Plaza Hotel, Radisson SAS and Jaz Tala Bay. Construction for the new Hilton Hotel will also commence in the first quarter of 2008.

Plans for the 18-hole golf course are underway as construction is expected to commence in March 2008. This golf course, the first ever in Jordan, will have a three-hole golf academy, a hotel, a country club and several residential units. This project will be spread over an area of 1.1 million square meters to the left of the main road approaching Tala Bay. Provisions are being made to allow golfers visiting Taba Heights on the Egyptian coast opposite Tala Bay to commute to play golf at the Tala Bay golf course.

To facilitate the operations of the hotels, the company has just concluded the building of twelve staff housing units catering to all managerial requirements of such establishments. There are dorms that have rooms that can host up to four persons, others that can house two in a room and some buildings that have executive and family apartments. These buildings have been erected on land owned by the company just east of the Marina Town. The buildings are also being made available to other projects in Aqaba seeking housing for their staff.
